What's Wrong With Mold Glass?

What's wrong with mold glass?

What is moldy glass?

The so-called mildew of glass means that the sodium salt in the glass is hydrolyzed under the action of water to release sodium hydroxide and produce free silica at the same time; the precipitated sodium hydroxide further accelerates the occurrence of hydrolysis, so it is an autocatalytic acceleration process. This process will destroy the surface structure of the glass, making the glass lose its luster and reduce its transparency. This phenomenon is very similar to "mold", but it is not actually caused by biological mold in the ordinary sense.

Moldy glass is actually very similar to steel rust, it is a natural chemical reaction phenomenon of materials. Moldy glass is usually visible marks and spots at the beginning of photometry, and then spots and marks visible under natural light. Later, there may be a whole area of white or rainbow, and finally the whole piece of glass loses luster and transparency.

What are the factors related to glass moldy?

Water and moisture are the key factors for glass mold. Without water, glass will not mold. If there is water on the glass, the surface of the glass will not be moldy if it is quickly cleaned up. Mold is generally the result of the combined effects of CO2 in glass, water and air. Water or tide water The water in the air stays on the glass surface for a long time, and chemically reacts with the CO2 in the air, which will inevitably lead to mold.

Temperature affects the rate at which glass molds. The higher the temperature, the more likely the glass is to mold. For every 10°C higher the temperature, the rate of moldy glass will be about 3 times faster.

The glass formula is the basic condition for glass mould. Generally speaking, the water-soluble Na and K in the glass raw material formula, the greater the amount of raw materials used, the more likely the glass is to mold.

How to prevent mold glass?

Waterproof and moisture-proof during storage and transportation is the key to prevent glass from mould. Clean and use the glass as soon as possible after contact with water. The glass is best stacked in a dry place.

The glass should be separated from each other during storage. For long-term storage, it is best to spray mold powder on the glass surface. For glass in an airtight package, a desiccant must be placed in the package.

What should I do if the glass is moldy?

Citric acid cleaning has a certain effect on mild moldy citric acid cleaning.

Polishing-For relatively obvious mildew, polishing can be used to physically remove the mildew.

Tempered glass and mold

In the glass tempering process, the high temperature of the tempering furnace once again increases the surface activity of the glass to a certain degree; after the glass is tempered, the anti-mold preventive measures are generally not taken as when the float glass is off the assembly line. Therefore, general tempered glass is more prone to mildew. Generally, the tempered glass hollow interlayer in the process of circulation should not exceed one month, and the coating should not exceed 2 weeks.
