Insulated Glazing Unit

Insulated glass unit is made of two or more glass panes separated by an air gap and edge-sealed together. This edge seal not only binds the individual sheets of glass together to maintain the mechanical strength of the joint but also protects the space between the glass from outside influences. The air enclosed between the two glass panes is dried with a desiccant. Because of the low heat conductivity of the enclosed dry air between the glass panes, heat transmission through the window is drastically reduced. Tempered, Laminated, reflective, low-E, tinted, or clear glass can be used.

Insulated glass (IGU) features multiple glass panes sealed with a spacer, creating an air/gas-filled gap that significantly boosts energy efficiency (less heat transfer), provides excellent thermal insulation, offers superior sound dampening, reduces condensation, and increases overall strength and security, keeping interiors cooler in summer and warmer in winter, lowering utility costs, and enhancing comfort.

• Thermal Insulation: Insulated glass reduces heat transfer, keeping buildings warmer in winter and cooler in summer. It helps lower heating and cooling costs by acting as an effective barrier to temperature changes.
• U-Value: The U-value measures the thermal performance of glass. Insulated glass has a low U-value, meaning it retains more heat and reduces energy loss.
• Noise Reduction: Double-glazed windows are excellent at dampening external noise. The air gap between the glass panes acts as a sound barrier, making it ideal for homes and offices located in noisy environments.
• Prevention of Condensation: Insulated glass helps prevent condensation on windows by maintaining a more stable internal temperature. This is particularly important in colder climates where condensation can lead to mold and mildew growth.
• Strengthened Glass: Many insulated glass units are made with tempered or laminated glass, which makes them more resistant to breakage. This increases the safety and security of windows.
• Enhanced Insulation: Some insulated glass units include Low-E (low-emissivity) coatings, which further reduce heat transfer and improve energy efficiency by reflecting heat back into the building.
