The artistic creation of stained glass|Chris Wood

There is a kind of magic glass, when you observe it from different angles, its color will change accordingly. When light passes through, the color of the glass and the color refracted by the glass are different.
This special material is dichroic glass, also known as dazzling glass.
In order to commemorate a fairy tale writer, Japan once used this cool glass material to make a large lantern in his birthplace, which seemed to have entered a colorful fairy tale world.



NASA invented this glass material in the 1950s. It has a special optical coating on its surface to reflect certain wavelengths of light while allowing other light to pass through. At certain angles, the glass looks completely reflective, a bit like a golden mirror. At some angles, it looks like a rainbow, with colorful and brilliant colors.
This unique color effect inspired British artist Chris Wood. She uses the refraction principle of this dichroic glass to create light sculptures.
The glass material is cut into small pieces of uniform size, and through different arrangements and combinations, they are erected vertically on the wall into different shapes, using two-color glass plates to refract light in a vivid color array.
This is an artistic design involving a series of mathematical and physical problems such as the angle of light refraction and geometric principles.




Chris Wood arranged various geometric figures on the windows and white panels. Under the sunlight, the light and shadow projected by these dazzling glass will produce a colorful and stunning effect.
In the past few years, Chris Wood's works have been mainly exhibited in major exhibitions and have received good responses.
In 2018, Chris Wood also established her own studio and began contracting some large-scale installations to provide works for the exhibition. At the same time, she used her light sculptures in various architectural or interior design.
