Vacuum Insulated Glass

Vacuum insulated glass consists of two panes of ordinary glass with a vacuum layer in between (similar to the wall of a thermos flask). Because the vacuum layer is only a fraction of a millimeter thick, the total thickness of the finished unit is approximately 3/16 inch, about half the thickness of a traditional double-glazing window. The internal vacuum layer significantly reduces conductive heat loss, while a low-emissivity (Low-E) coating helps to slow down radiant heat transfer.

The size, shape, and material composition of the polymer cross-shaped spacers effectively mitigate contact stress that can occur in vacuum insulated glass when using small glass or metal spacers, thus preventing contact damage. The polymer undergoes elastic deformation under load, allowing the spacers to adapt to the bending of the glass and thereby reducing contact stress. This polymer deformation distributes the compressive load evenly among the spacers, compensating for unevenness in the glass surface or ripples that may occur when using tempered glass. These characteristics are crucial for resisting wind, snow, and impact loads.
