Heat-strengthened Glass

Heat-Strengthened Glass is a type of thermally processed glass manufactured using a process similar to tempered glass, but with a slower and more controlled cooling stage. This process creates moderate surface compression, typically ranging from 6,000 to 9,000 psi, compared to 11,000 to 20,000 psi for fully tempered glass.

As a result, Heat-Strengthened Glass is approximately twice as strong as annealed glass, offering improved durability and significantly enhanced resistance to thermal stress. This makes it an ideal choice for applications where additional strength is required without the full characteristics of tempered safety glass.

Unlike tempered glass, Heat-Strengthened Glass is not classified as safety glass under standard glass regulations. When broken, it tends to form larger, less fragmented pieces compared to tempered glass.

Thanks to its superior optical quality and reduced distortion, Heat-Strengthened Glass is widely used in architectural applications, especially for building facades, curtain walls, and exterior glazing systems, where both strength and visual clarity are essential.
